For Researchers - Medical Records Abstraction

HR/CSC abstracted medical records data, including final diagnosis and first course of treatment, is provided electronically from the UNC Hospital Tumor Registry on all HR/CSC cancer cases diagnosed and/or treated at UNC Health Care.

This abstraction includes data about diagnosis, tumor stage and grade, and treatment. Data received from the UNC Hospital Tumor Registry is augmented by HR/CSC abstractors for additional treatment variables that are not routinely collected by the UNC Tumor Registry.

ICD-9 billing data is obtained from medical records to assign participants to an initial diagnostic category. This is not the participant’s final diagnosis. Final diagnosis is obtained from the UNC Tumor Registry medical records abstraction following the participants’ first course of treatment.
